The Filmmakers

Behtash Sanaeeha and Maryam Moghaddam are acclaimed Iranian filmmakers known for their compelling and socially conscious storytelling. Together, Sanaeeha and Moghaddam craft films that merge lyrical storytelling with hard-hitting realism, delving into themes of morality, human rights, and the struggles of individuals within oppressive systems. Their collaborative process reflects a shared commitment to amplifying voices often left unheard, making their work both artistically profound and socially impactful.

Behtash Sanaeeha, originally an architect by training, transitioned to filmmaking with a passion for exploring human relationships and socio-political issues through a deeply visual and atmospheric lens. Maryam Moghaddam, a versatile actor and screenwriter, brings her extensive experience in the Iranian film industry to their projects, often embodying complex and resilient characters while co-creating deeply resonant narratives.

With Ballad of a White Cow (2020), My Favourite Cake (2024), and other projects, the pair continues to earn accolades on the global stage, positioning themselves as leading voices in contemporary Iranian cinema. My Favourite Cake (2024) was also selected by The Gaurdian as the second best film of 2024.
